Top 10 Best Wheelchair Videos

April 16, 2010

People send us stories, photos, news, and videos all the time. I wish I had time to pblog about all of them. I love watching cool videos of adaptive sports! I really pumps me up and reminds me of why we do this Gimp thing. My friend just sent me these videos of the top 10 extreme wheelchair sports. You can watch them individually but do yourself a favor and don’t skip any of them. All of them are  inspiring and really have great stories behind them about very cool people. I think I like this collage because it’s a whole spectrum of disabled sports, from sledge hockey to quadriplegic rockcrawling to the disabled surfers association in Australia. There are many more so stop wasting time ready my review and watch it yourself

Getting Gimp Apparel of the Ground

March 15, 2010

It’s frustrating when you have a great idea and designs but stores are so affraid to sell it. They are so closed minded and don’t even want to hear what Gimp actually means. We are selling gear all over the United States, Canada, U.K., Sweden , and even Guam. FYI Guam is considered domstic shipping (Crazy, aint it?)
We have a bunch of established athletes that are promoting and wearing our gear, we’ve sponsored many events and we’ve even volunteered at events and not done it through Gimp. I think we’ve already proven that we’re not some make-shift fly by night outfit. We are the real deal with quality products and designs and have the means to give back to the disabled community.
Even with the abreviated logo,G.A.,inc. it still scares them off. They don’t get that the name expressess the attitude of the athlete. With so many programs relying on donataions and the economy being they way it is, we are in a great spot to really do some good here. We are making and selling a product so our profit margin is that much greater. In turn our contribution is that much greater. All we need is a couple stores to take a second and see what we are all about and they rest will catch up.
So many people write to tell me about all the attention they get by wearing a Gimp Apparel shirt, once the concept is explained people are really into it. This is huge for adaptive sports because public awareness is also so important and gets forgotten alot of time.
I understand most adaptive sports programs have limited space and money. I’m not putting any of these stores down for that, I’m just frustrated with the closed minded, timid stores. We have a great product with a great message and mission. I just need to get it to more customers. Gimp Apparel is still sold in our Ebay store and is linked to our website but to have it in the customers hand to feel the quality and see it first hand makes a difference. To us and adaptive sports and the disabled community.
Thanks for reading my rant. Look for us at a retailer near you very soon!

Big Bully NFL

February 3, 2010

Don’t know if you heard about the NFL trying to stop a woman from selling Who Dat? shirts w/ the fleur de lis logo. This is the slogan of New Orleans Saints fans to proclaim thier loyalty. The NFL was claiming that this infringed on thier copyright. Because of all the negative press coverage the NFL backed off. On our Ebay site we had Who Dat shirts w/ the fleur de lis logo along with other football fan slogans. We recieved a letter from the NFL saying that our designs “might” have broken copyright laws. They asked us to take off Who dey? (Cincinatti Bengals), The Black Hole (Oakland Raiders), the Dallas Star. The guys from PTI put it best when they called the NFL a Big Bully. These were sayings made up by the fans or symbols, but the NFL with take others ideas and copyright them. They can’t own the Dallas Star logo or the Fleur de lis, but yet they are so powerful that it seems they can do anything. I understand that it takes alot of money to run the NFL and they have to protect thier investments but when it wasn’t thiers in the firts place don’t snatch it from the fans. Maybe if these players weren’t making millions of dollars before they even prove themselves in the pro league, maybe the NFL wouldn’t be so desperate as to squash the little guys. I like the idea of having a rookie salary cap, as alot of these guys come out with a fat paycheck and become a big bust. Forget you NFL!  I’ll just watch the Lingerie Football League, Go Miami Caliente!

Adaptive Sports in X Games

February 2, 2010

Just got back from the X Games in Aspen and it was amazing! If you didn’t mind the crowds or the cold it was flawless. The parking was easy, the event was free to the public you get close to alot of the athletes. I guess if there was a negative it was that some of the events were watched on the big screen until they far enough down the mountain to be seen live. Even so, it was still exciting to see them blast the last couple jumps or race to the finish line.
I’m also very pleased to see that adaptive sports are taking a bigger role in the X games. There was Adaptive snowcross and mono skier x. This is great exposure to the general public about adaptive sports. Most people think that after an accident your days of competeing in sports is over, this definatly showed the fans that is not true.
Big praise to those athletes and Big Ups to ESPN for inviting adaptive sports into the X Games

Paralyzed man leads charge for healthcare reform

September 18, 2009

My friend fwd this article to me today and I hope everyone reading this will pass it on. People don’t realize that there are so many other costs that insurance won’t pay for. Even though I believe that our healthcare system needs more than just a bill , I’m happy to see so much attention going to healthcare reform. I work in healthcare and see it every day, the insurance company oversees  your recovery not your doctor. Alan Brown is very inspiring ,good luck bro!   http://alantbrown.blogspot.com/2009/06/paralyzed-man-leads-charge-for.html
